Wednesday Oct 16th, 2013. Blanaid Denman of RSPB Newcastle will give a presentation about “Skydancer”, an exciting new project aimed at raising awareness and promoting the conservation of hen harriers in the north of England. I have heard very good things about Blanaid’s presentation; it should be a fascinating, instructive and above all inspiring evening for anyone interested in wildlife.

 • Wednesday Nov 20th 2013. David Long. “Bryophytes from the Borders and Beyond”. Mosses and liverworts are intriguing, and Britain has a particularly rich bryophyte flora - they like our wet weather! The commoner species are prominent in some local vegetation types, and national rarities are also found here. David Long works at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh but lives in the Borders, and is an internationally renowned expert on these fascinating plants.

 • March onwards. Berwick Wildlife Group's survey season begins. Studies will encompass bats, (other) small mammals, butterflies, grasslands, sea-shore work and the OPAL "climate change" survey. We cannot set up survey dates months in advance as weather, availability of equipment, etc. are not yet known, but if you are interested please telephone 01289 330591 or e-mail mail3@berwickwildlifegroup.org.uk so we can keep you informed as surveys are arranged. Beginners very welcome. This is one of the most important parts of our work (and probably the most fun). We need more volunteers – do come along!
